There are
numerous benefits to rooting your Android phones and tablets. In fact, the
benefits are endless. But I’ll try to give
you the top benefits of rooting
Android devices here. If you don’t know what rooting is or you are a bit
confused about rooting, read our article on What Is Rooting?
1. Boost Your Phone Speed: One of the
most useful benefits of rooting your device is the
extra speed and high
performance that comes with it. Are you having problems when playing high-end
games like Asphalt, Real Racing, FIFA or GTA? Then root it! You can tweak a lot
of things to get the desired speed and performance on your device when it is
rooted.
2.
Increase
Battery Life: With root access on your device, you can get more battery
life out of it.
Having difficulties using your device for 10 hours at a
stretch? Then root it! Though the extra
battery life you get depends on the capacity of the battery and
software/hardware of your device, you should still be able to get extra juice
out of it.
3.
Remove
pre-installed/unwanted apps: Many apps are bundled along with
android devices, most of which are useless for the users.
These apps fill up
precious memory needed for storage and seamless performance. Since it is not
possible to uninstall these apps normally, rooting your device is the only way
to remove all crapware.
4.
Flash a Custom
Kernel: Some of android’s most intricate tweaks need a kernel to
work. The kernel is the interface between software and hardware, brokering
communication between the two.
So flashing a custom kernel helps your device to
have features which it didn’t normally have. For example, if your phone doesn’t
come with GPS, flashing a custom kernel with GPS support will enable you use
the feature on your phone.
5.
Flash a
Custom ROM: A custom ROM is basically a custom version of android OS,
which can change how you use your phone.
For example, if your device is running
on android version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), and you’ve not gotten an
update to version 4.2 Jellybean yet from
your phone manufacturer, but would like to use the features, flashing a custom
ROM in the desired android version will solve this problem for you.
6.
Back Up
Your Phone Totally: Have you had a situation whereby you mistakenly
deleted your phone and there’s no way to get it back? Then root it! With
Nandroid Backups, you can back everything up on your phone, from the ROM to the
kernel to all the settings and data on your phone. Or per-app backup which
backs up each apps data and settings for easy data migration between devices,
the possibilities are endless.
7.
Unlock
Hidden Features: There are many features on Android devices which can
make life more enjoyable for users, but are hidden to most people. With root
access, accessing these features becomes easy. You could make your phone audio
output louder than the default maximum volume, install apps which are
incompatible with your phone, and emulate features that are exclusive to
certain devices on your phone.
8.
Extreme
Customization: Android is already customizable without root, but with root
access, you get EXTREME CUSTOMIZATION. You have the ability to customize every
part of your phone. From keyboard colours, to status bar to gestures,
everything is customizable with root.
9.
Ability To
Hack: Have you ever wished you could hack that Wi-Fi connection
around your house? Or that you could spy in on that friend’s phone? It is
possible. With numerous root apps, you can hack just about anything you want
to.
10.
Unlimited
Browsing: Ahh! I bet this got your attention. Well, for us in Nigeria
and some other African countries, this is the Number 1 benefit of rooting. With
apps like Netloop VPN, Syphon Shield, Psiphon Handler, you could tweak Telecommunications
(MTN, GLO, ETISALAT, AIRTEL) data subscriptions to make it better for you. And
with imei tweaking, you could be getting enormous gigabytes for free!
